Steamed Chana Dal Lentil Bafauri

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram)

  • 2–3 green chilies (chopped)

  • 1-inch ginger (grated)

  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds

  • 1 pinch asafoetida (hing)

  • ½ tsp turmeric powder

  • Salt to taste

  • 1–2 tsp oil (for greasing)

Instructions:

  1. Wash and soak the chana dal for 4–5 hours. Drain the water completely.

  2. Grind the soaked dal coarsely without adding much water.

  3. Transfer the paste to a bowl. Add green chilies, ginger, coriander leaves, cumin seeds, hing, turmeric, and salt. Mix well.

  4. Grease a steamer plate or idli mold with oil.

  5. Shape small balls or dumplings from the mixture and place them on the greased plate.

  6. Steam for 12–15 minutes until firm and cooked.

  7. Let them cool slightly and serve hot with green chutney.
